“Home Assistant”, a smart home automation system, is getting a huge upgrade, the biggest in years. The platform is getting voice control and a host of new privacy features. The device is manufactured by Nabu Casa.
One of the major features that is getting a lot of attention is the system’s ability to run locally without the use of cloud services or internet connections. This has huge implications for the privacy of those who use it and allows users to feel safer that their data and home life are not being listened in on.
While using Home Assistant, the device can run fully locally, which keeps your voice in your home, and does not send it to cloud services or anywhere off-site. There will also be an option to offload the voice feature to a cloud service that doesn’t store recordings or train on user data.
“We all deserve a voice assistant that doesn’t harvest our data and limit features. That’s why we’re rapidly advancing our open-source, privacy-focused voice assistant for the home. Stress Eating Comfort Food Can Increase Mental Health And Heart Disease Risks

With the holidays in full swing, there are two things in abundance. Good food and high stress.
Research sheds light on a crucial aspect of these two we might be overlooking—the impact of high-fat foods on our vascular health during stressful times. Published in Frontiers in Nutrition, a study reveals a concerning correlation between stress, fatty meals, and endothelial function. The endothelium, a vital layer in blood vessels, plays a key role in regulating blood flow. The researchers discovered that indulging in fatty foods before a stressful event led to a 1.74% reduction in vascular function, compared to a 1.18% reduction with a low-fat meal.
This decline in function, lasting up to 90 minutes after stress, poses a significant risk, with even a 1% reduction associated with a 13% rise in cardiovascular disease risk. The study also delves into the impact on the prefrontal cortex, the brain’s cognitive hub, revealing a 39% reduction in oxygenated hemoglobin for those who consumed high-fat meals.
Nutrition experts, including Kelsey Costa and Robert Iafelice, weigh in on the implications. Costa suggests that stress-induced fat consumption may hinder the body’s healing process, potentially due to increased triglycerides and C-reactive protein. Iafelice emphasizes the link between stress, cortisol release, and a penchant for unhealthy diets.
To counteract this, it is recommended to embrace plant-based foods rich in antioxidants and polyphenols, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Omega-3 fatty acids and probiotics from sources like cold-water fish and fermented foods can also contribute to vascular health.
